About the Program:

Guest Host Clarence V. Reynolds and author Sophfronia Scott discuss the themes in Scott’s latest book, Unforgivable Love, a retelling of the story Dangerous Liaisons, a story about love and betrayal in Parisian society that was originally published in 1782. Scott’s retelling of the tale is restaged in high-society Harlem in 1947.  In the interview, Scott talks about the genesis behind writing the story, her research for the novel, the development of her memorable characters, and the themes she explores in this updated narrative.






About the Author:

Sophfronia Scott hails from Lorain, Ohio. She was a writer and editor at Time and People magazines before publishing her first novel, All I Need to Get By (St. Martin’s Griffin, 2004). Her work has appeared in O: The Oprah Magazine and New York Her essays, short stories, and articles have also appeared in The Killens Review of Arts & Letters, Saranac Review, Numéro Cinq, Ruminate, Barnstorm Literary Journal, and Sleet Magazine. Unforgivable Love is her second novel, and she has also completed a spiritual memoir written with her son, This Child of Faith (December, 2017), and a collection of essays, Love’s Long Line (February, 2018). Scott holds a BA in English from Harvard and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, with her husband and son.
