Just Us Books and 15th NBWC

As with past National Black Writers Conferences, Just Us Books Inc. has been an important partner, showcasing a variety of children’s and young adult titles to NBWC attendees. We are delighted to have them join us once again, this time for the virtual 15th NBWC.

Just Us Books Inc. was founded in 1988 by Wade Hudson and Cheryl Willis Hudson. It was the Hudson’s passion for writing and life-long mission to help foster positive self-image within the Black community that prompted them to launch Just Us Books, the nation’s leading independent publisher of Black-interest books for young people. Since established more than 30 years ago, Just Us Books has published more than 100 Black-interest and multicultural books for children and young adults. The award-wining publisher’s offerings include board books, picture books, chapter books, biographies, poetry, and young adult novels.

In addition to their roles as publishers, both Wade and Cheryl have cultivated dual careers as children’s book authors and their titles include the recently published The Talk: Conversations about Race, Love & Truth (2020) and We Rise, We Resist, We Raise Our Voices, with Ashley Bryan (2019) among many others.

Among their many accolades and prizes, company founders Wade and Cheryl Hudson were honored in 2008 with the Ida B. Wells Institutional Builders Award for their contributions to literature at the Ninth National Black Writers Conference at Medgar Evers College.
