The Center for Black Literature invites vendors to exhibit/sell their work at the Medgar Evers College Campus on:
Friday, March 23, 2018 through Sunday, March 25, 2018

How Do I Become a Vendor?
*This is a rate for authors willing to share a table with 1 to 2 other authors at the rate of $75 for the 3 days. (Maximum 3 authors to a table.)

Whether submitting your application online or via mail, please forward review copy of book/s written by exhibiting author/ publisher. Include a brochure, a catalog, or a listing if multiple titles that will be on display (pictures of covers should be included) and/ or a description of goods to be sold. Payment Via Mail: Only certified check(s) or money order(s) will be accepted. NO PERSONAL CHECKS!

Please follow the directions detailed in the form. Your application will be reviewed by the NBWC Committee. If you or your company are selected you will be issued official notification by our Vendor Coordinator.

You will not be notified if you are not selected.

Step 2 – A Registration Form will be sent to you upon your selection (or made available electronically). Please complete in a timely manner. PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED TO HOLD YOUR TABLE. IF THE PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED BY March 10, 2018, your selection will be VOID and a waitlisted vendor will be selected. If you are registering as a waitlisted vendor, you will be given a specific date BEFORE the conference to remit payment. Confirmed Vendors pay here. [This is available to confirmed vendors ONLY.]

Step 3 – Upon your completion of the Registration Form you will receive a formal confirmation letter from our Vendor Coordinator (Step 3) with details.

Please note: The Center for Black Literature reserves the right to reject any vendor exhibits, materials or items deemed inappropriate.  In this case, you will receive a full refund of your vendor registration.  Materials that are welcome at the National Black Writers Conference include journals, self-published books, literacy-related materials, crafts, art, jewelry, etc.

How Can I Promote My Product at the Conference?

Vendors are encouraged to place an advertisement in the 14th National Black Writers Conference Souvenir Program Journal or consider being a sponsor of the Conference. You can learn more about this on our Sponsorship page.

If you have “giveaways” (i.e. discount passes, gift cards) that you would like to make available to participants please contact the Center for Black Literature at 718-804-8883. To send samples of these items please see the addresses above. [The Conference generally has 1,500 – 2,000 participants over 3 – 4 days.]

How Are Vendors Selected?

For Authors / Book sellers – content, in addition to presentation (appearance), are considered in the selection process. Individual/ Independent authors and small publishing houses with multiple titles are encouraged to apply; however, please note that it is very challenging to be successful at vending in this space if you are a new writer, one who may not be considered “mainstream”, and are not participating on a panel. (Panelists are selected by invitation only.)

Artists/ Business/ Non-profit Organizations/ Other – we accept a wide range of vendors. Selected vendors will be based on the application pool. The Committee will select a balance of jewelry, clothing, books, and other vendors.

Basic Information for Selected Vendors:

  • Vendors will begin setting up between 8:00 am in order to be ready by 10:00 am for the National Black Writers Conference. See the program for start and end times for each day.
  • The Center will provide a table and 2 chairs for each vendor. Vendors must cover their table.
  • The Center will not supply easels or dollies.
  • Vendors must break down their table space and clear their area thirty minutes after closing on Friday at 9:00 p.m., Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, 5:00 p.m.  Please begin dismantling and cleaning your area in time to comply with this directive.  The Center for Black Literature and Medgar Evers College, CUNY are not responsible for any loss of property.
  • You must use a manual machine or personalize electronic device (i.e. iPhone) with this capability if you will be using credit cards for customer purchases.  The Center for Black Literature will not be providing phone lines or special electrical needs.
  • Vendors can enter the College parking lot to unload and load merchandise. Vehicle must be removed from College parking lot because must parking spaces in lot are faculty or pre-paid spots for students.  Please be respectful of others.
