Tales of Our Times:
An Anthology – Spring/Summer 2018
Crossing Many Waters: Travel Memoirs from Elder Writers
This issue will be available for purchase shortly.
In the Spring/Summer 2018 issue of Tales of Our Times: An Anthology, Vol. 4., members of the Elders Writing Workshop present stories of chartered flights to European destinations; family visits to the land Down Under; and visits to Asia, where local residents had never seen Black people before. The memoirs included in “Crossing Many Waters: Travel Memoirs from Elder Writers” range from the mid-20th century to the 21st century; and the collection is rich with stories of African American vacationers who traveled the world and whose personal experiences changed the writers’ lives forever.
The Elders Writing Workshop, “Tales of Our Times,” is a writing workshop sponsored by The Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College in collaboration with Siloam Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York. The Elders Writing Workshop is designed to encourage elder African Americans to turn their memories into creative and original stories describing the ordinary experiences and events that have enriched their lives and contributed to our collective history. Their stories reveal the roots of American culture, as we know it today. The workshop is generously supported with funds from Poets & Writers and the John Oliver Killens Chair at Medgar Evers College.
